Concert poster collector Scott Mussell is seeking an example of this poster promoting the Radiohead concert on July 18, 1995 at The Bottleneck in Lawrence, Kansas. The band played the gig while touring in support of their second album, The Bends. The Bottleneck holds fewer than 400 people, sits near the University of Kansas, and was a key stop on the Midwest college rock club circuit. "Growing up in Iowa, I've always had an affinity for Midwest posters," Mussell said. The poster is printed in black on pink stock, with a band photo under a bold RADIOHEAD header, opening act Drugstore, and the notes "18 & Over" and "Adv. Tix." It carries the date "Tuesday July 18" but no year. “It’s probably 11 x 17 inches, but I’ve never had a chance to examine one. If anyone has one, I’d be eager to learn more,” Mussell notes.
Radiohead broke through with "Creep," the debut single from their first album, Pablo Honey, which reached the Top 40 in the U.S. The Bends drew mixed reviews in the U.S. and sold slowly in the States. "While it didn't have the chart impact of 'Creep,' this record is remembered as the better effort, and its legacy has only grown over time," Mussell noted, adding, “I’m really interested in any flyer or poster promoting gigs on this 1995 American tour.” Mussell is offering $300 for an example of this poster. He is also after Bottleneck posters like the April 5, 1993 Screaming Trees show with Poster Children and Pond, and the Dec. 2, 1994 Cramps show with Gas Huffer. If you have any of these, or other original Lawrence concert posters, flyers or handbills, Mussell strongly encourages you to get in touch.
