Civil Rights Collector Scott Mussell is searching for Student NonViolent Coordinating Committee posters. SNCC was formed in 1960 when veteranSCLC activist Ella Baker invited student participants in the 1960 North Carolina sit-ins to a meeting encouraging them to form a youth wing of SCLS. The students wished to remain independent from Martin Luther King Jr's SCLC but during the early years the two groups worked fairly closely on sit-ins, voting rights, desegregation and so on. Some of the posters Mussell is seeking are c.1962 as they show zone numbers rather than zip codes on the SNCC's address. "Each poster in this series features an image by famed photographer Danny Lyon" Mussell states. Lyon is a noted documentarian of the Civil Rights movement producing many of the iconic images associated with SNCC. "There are at least five posters in the series the ones pictured here are what I'm most interested in obtaining for my collection especially 'Now' and 'One Man One Vote'" Mussell says adding "I'll pay upwards of $750 based on the condition of the poster but want to stress that I'm a buyer in any condition."

SNCC is among the most important Civil Rights groups in the early 1960's and featured some of the most important leaders of the movement including John Lewis, Bob Moses, Stokley Carmichael and others. "Besides these posters I'm always looking to add buttons, fliers, booklets, and more related to SNCC and the Civil Rights movement to my collection" Mussell notes adding "Historical preservation of these items is my biggest goal. These are relics of our countries 'original sin' and it's vital that this material be preserved and archived for future generations both by museums and collectors like myself."
